In Search of Reality

What is reality? Reality is that state of mind that believes it is what exists and perceives everything else that doesn't. It accepts your reality when you believe that reality. If you don't believe that reality it will accept your state of insanity with the same calm equilibrium of the Pacific Ocean in a class five hurricane. So, step in, let us merge our realities and, maybe, with patience a new reality will begin.

Remi-nissing

You know, it's been something like five years now since I took over the Webmastership of Crescent Blues and it feels kinda weird to see it winding down.

Odd too, since I'd never really wanted the role in the first place. My true love at the time had been a fiction ezine I'd just started called The Elven Wolf. The poor Wolf died in infancy since I couldn't manage both sites in parallel and live my other lives at the same time.

This year though, starting with my extended ill health (several months in the ICU), plus the fact my writing career has finally started--not to mention that CB's editor, live journal user jmward14, and assistant editor, live journal user qnotku, own writing careers have exploded, it was decided all round to wind CB down to archival status. At least for now.

So how do I feel about CB retiring?

Relieved and nostalgic. I remember the fun times I had, like the occasion I became part of the team to net the interview with Terry Pratchett and my wonderful interview with the intensely funny Neal Barrett Jr. not to mention the times I was trounced by irate readers for reviews they considered to be overly harsh.

Yes, I admit it, I'm part demon with a mission to destroy authors everywhere. There, I feel better now my confession is out. Remind me to get some wax to polish these horns.

So, in many ways CB has been fun. Am I sad? No, not in the sad sense of the word. Matured I guess is how I would describe it. It's time to move on from CB to, hopefully, better things.

CB gave me a chance to stretch my wings and opened up vistas I'd never thought I'd reach. Vistas that culminated late last year in my first novel being published (ebook only alas but, hey, it's a beginning.) Cyberius III also, knock me dead surprised, won the eCataromance award for best first romance ebook for 2005. An amazing accolade and one I certainly didn't expect.

So with a new year, another book sale (this time one that will go to print), hopefully new health and a new here-to-stay-for-a-long-while granddaughter (who thinks her grandfather is nuttier than a Payday bar and as clueless as a fashion designer on a naturist beach.) I feel like CB, I'm ready to close my old life and start anew.

So, au revoir, Crescent Blues. May the Force Live Long and Prosper!

Like the Phoenix, I am born anew!

Hey, watch where you put that blowtorch…

:)

Cya on the CyberWaves!
